C&K Markets debuts a new discount banner known as Lo Buck$. This new banner sits on the site of a former Ray’s Food Place, another C&K banner. The new store, located in Willits, California, is 40,000 square feet and features Hispanic food offerings, a dollar store inside, sharp pricing for spirits and wines, and a “wall of values,” which will be at the entrance. Also to be included at the new Lo Buck$ store are fresh produce, fresh meats and organic and natural items. The new Lo Buck$ discount banner is intended to meet the economy demands of C & K customers, according to President and CEO Greg Sandeno.
C & K Market is based in Brookings, Oregon and is family-owned, currently operating 65 stores and 15 pharmacies that run under various banners including Tiffany’s Drug, Chetco Pharmacy, Pharmacy Express, Lo Buck$, C & K Market, Shop Smart and Ray’s Food Place.
The retailer had previously announced its plans to move some of its administrative staff working from Brookings to Medford, Oregon. The move was made to ease crowding in its main offices and to make buyers accessible to vendors. Brookings is situated at the coast, while Medford is situated inland approximately 126 miles and next to an airport. A great number of employees commute from the Medford area to Brookings area every Monday, following which they have to stay at hotels, all at C & K’s expenses until Friday. The opening of an office at Medford will therefore eliminate this expense and give the employees the opportunity to spend more quality time with their families. The office will have at least 20 of the company’s 90 staff members, as well as some buyers and a few development and training staff.
