Monty Ward founded Elmira Poultry in 1985. The company’s name was taken from the business’ location in Elmira, Ontario. Ward decided to establish the business because he wanted to fulfill a demand for value-added poultry products that have already been processed.
In the succeeding years, the company slowly prospered and became known in the area for its high-quality poultry products. In 1990, the company moved to a new location in Waterloo, which has been its headquarters since. The Waterloo headquarters was and is a state-of-the art facility, with an area of 40,000 square feet. This larger facility allowed the company to supply poultry products to a larger customer base in North America.
In 2006, Elmira Poultry was acquired by JD Sweid Ltd. This acquisition created a network to meet an even larger demand on a nationwide scale. The acquisition also resulted in the creation of one of the country’s biggest supplier of beef and poultry products. The company was able to supply a number of retail and foodservice companies. Three years after, JD Sweid, including Elmira Poultry, completed a major expansion and changed its name to JD SWEID FOODS. The change in company name and its expansion resulted in a better reflection of the company’s national structure.
Despite the many changes and expansions that the company has gone through, its commitment to its employees and customers remain to be the same. Elmira Poultry continues to be a member of Tri-Cities community and continues to support local initiatives and efforts. The company even has long-standing programs to help raise funds and support local community programs and goals.
Today, JD SWEID Foods, including Elmira Poultry, continues its commitment to produce safe, high quality and innovative products for their customers and consumers. Some of Elmira Poultry’s products include boneless chicken breasts, breaded poultry products like nuggets, chicken wings and chicken fillets, specialty products like Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Kiev and Chicken Divan. The company also offers healthy poultry products through its brand BalanceWise®. These healthy products are free from trans-fats and are low in sodium content.
