KrogerKroger Co. recently announced that it would be releasing their Project Mercury and a Master Data Management Plan in at least nine classes of their products and categories. The company came up with the idea after assembling a group of specialists at the GS1 US Connects (UPC barcode) conference to prepare its suppliers for the projects. This new strategy will see the introduction of a completely new way of delivering information on various products. This new approach was necessitated by the increasing demand for perfection with regards to running of the business operations in the company. Companies are continually looking for better ways of conducting their business, and if you choose not to be innovative you are likely to lose a lot of clients in the process. Customers need information regarding products to be readily available whenever they need it. Suppliers and the producers on the other hand like their sales and payment records to be easily sorted and arranged in a manner that is easy to sort and analyze.

According to the human resource department of the company, this is one of the biggest projects the company has undertaken since the company was founded. The company expects that the project will have a big impact on customer service and speed to market. The company expects to implement this program within the next three years. The pilot phase of the project was carried out on nine classes of products. Some of the products that were included in the pilot phase included cheese, breakfast sausage, coffee filters, air care, and packed deli meat, among others.
