The company Bay Valley Foods LLC has voluntarily recalled its Chicken Noodle soup with reduced sodium due to the presence of an undeclared allergen, as well as mislabeling on the product’s packaging.
The recall was made after the company received a customer complaint about the product being incorrectly labeled. What has been indicated on the label is that the canned soup has chicken noodle soup when in fact the actual ingredient is chicken cream soup. This cream was made using milk, a common food allergen, as part of its ingredients. Both Bay Valley Foods and FSIS are taking the necessary measures to make sure that the incorrectly labeled products are no longer available in retail stores for consumers to buy.
Approximately 188,181 lbs. of the affected product have been recalled. It is labeled as ‘Great Value Reduced Sodium Chicken Noodle Condensed Soup.’ Each can has a net weight of 10.5 ounces. The print on the can indicates the date of expiration as 09 29 12, the establishment number, which is P-51 and production date 09 29 2010.
Milk, as a common food allergen, triggers allergy attacks in people who are overly sensitive to it. In some cases, these allergy attacks can lead to serious health risks. Currently however, no health problems have been reported which are linked to the recalled product.
The recalled canned soup has been distributed nationwide. Retailers and customers who still have the recalled product in their possession are advised to return it for a refund. They can also call the company’s hotline at 1-800-983-0823. A consumer response representative will be able to assist them regarding their concerns about the recall.
