Absolut Vodka, in partnership with Threadless, an online design outfit, will be hosting an artist challenge to encourage participants to come up with Chicago-themed artwork for its city-inspired limited-edition bottles.
Absolut Vodka is a brand of Pernod Ricard USA, based in Purchase, New York, and has been creating limited-edition bottles inspired by city themes.
Previous city editions have included Miami, San Francisco, Brooklyn, Boston, Los Angeles and New Orleans. Chicago is the first to have been sourced from an online community of artists in the history of the brand city themes.
In addition to having their design printed on the bottle, the winner of the challenge will receive $10,000 as well as an exhibition at the Absolut Chicago launch party.
Maxime Kouchnir, Vice President of Vodkas at Pernod Ricard, said that the company has always had collaborations, dating back to the days of Herb Ritts and Andy Warhol. This latest partnership was to get the subsequent generation of the drinks’ consumers to stamp the brand creatively through the creation of a design that would appear on the new bottle.
Artists 25 years and older are encouraged to submit designs through Threadless, who will post the designs for the public to vote through March 7. A winner will then be selected from a finalist list by a jury composed of Absolut and Threadless executives. The new design will be revealed when the bottle will is launched for the fall season.
Chief Community Officer at Threadless Jake Nickell said that the artists in the online community will be given an opportunity to create a design on different canvas. He also said that since the business was established and located in Chicago, they would take pride in having participated in the series.

It has wines and spirits under several brands including Absolut Vodka, Malibu, Jacob’s Creek, Kahlua Liqueur, Brancott Estate, Jameson Irish Whiskey and Chivas Regal Scotch Whisky, among others.
