Wow, thanks for posting this!!! I just got a headache and sinus pressure from drinking a container of a different brand, so looked up this topic. Mine (from Costco) has no visible mold but now I am a bit reluctant to drink more coconut water since I am extremely sensitive to mold. Maybe I should compare with fresh (open a coconut). As I remember, pinkish is normal for very young coconuts but there can be other colors; so maybe mold is more common than I thought. The reason I suspected mold is that I got a whopping sinus problem & drainage the more pumpkin seeds I ate. Even though mine were refrigerated, it is so hard to keep them from going rancid! I thought up a solution, too: make them into nut butter while very fresh, cover with a layer of olive oil & refrigerate. Now if only there was a simple solution for keeping mold from coconuts naturally!
SERIOUS HEALTH WARNNING : Black Mold Clumps in O.N.E. Coconut Water! – large containers 33.8 fl oz. What can be read of lot number is : “22._ _ _ _ 12131 Jan 21 14.”
I just opened a container of O.N.E. Coconut Water, poured it into a glass and a lot of “black stuff” – small and very large clumps came out into the glass. I have been using this product for some time – a few times I saw little spots of black come out but thought it might be from the coconut somehow. Now I know why I have had the headache pressure – also allergies and sinus…who knows what else.
I ran to my computer to see if I could find anything on the subject…I did…plenty! The FDA recall that I just read about for the small container is NOT the ONLY batch with mold which is the claim being made. The small container recall lot code is 12E1004, with UPC number 894991001104 and expiration date of May 1, 2011.
I always buy the larger containers – a case (12) at a time – 33.8 FL OZ container. The lot number of this contaminated product is partially cover with “Best something” they printed over the lot number…so can’t read the full lot #. What can be read is : “22._ _ _ _ 12131 Jan 21 14.” I bought this in Boco Raton,FL.
I am in the business of beauty, health and anti-aging for 40 years- I’m also an author and columnist on the subjects…this serious health hazard must be known. What is being done about this??
I just took a set of photos of the mold in glasses…unbelievable! Where would you like me to send the photos so you may see them?
