colored lemonMore than 20 states in America are debating on whether to introduce GMO labeling on all the products in the American market, specifically the consumable and fast moving products. This comes in the wake of the recent defeat of the proposed Farm Bill that would have paved the way for the states around America to enact laws that would require genetically modified foods to be well labeled. This move is set to become a big cause of disagreement for businesses that have their operations spread throughout a number of different states. This is sure to bring up a compliance nightmare for such companies.

According to a recent survey by Supermarket News (SN) on the Center Store performance, most supermarkets around the country are thinking of how they will deal with the legislation when it comes into force. Suppliers in the sector are also thinking of their next move in case of a mandate. The survey says that six out of every ten farmers will abandon their products as they are and reveal the products that are genetically modified. Another 6.5% of the people interviewed said that they would change the composition of their products and avoid the need for relabeling them.

Other companies say that they would have to get the GMO status of their products certified or make a switch to start producing organic food alternatives. Given the current situation and the deteriorating nature of the health sector, it is encouraging to see that most of the companies that operate in this sector are already starting to look for healthier and safer alternatives for their customers. This is a positive move.
