Natural Versus Organic

Natural foods on the other hand, lack any federal or legal supervision. This means that there are no criteria or laws that define such food products. There are no regulations governing the natural ingredients amount that should be contained in food products. A food product deemed to be ‘natural’ is normally perceived to contain less chemical additives and preservatives compared to other processed foods.
When is a Product Said to Be Organic?
Using a prepackaged fruit bar as an example, a 100% organic bar would contain only organic ingredients that are fully certified. If the organic ingredients are only 95%, such a fruit bar may be labeled as organic. If the bar contains 70% organic ingredients, the label should indicate ‘contains organic ingredients’. Nothing below 70% should be labeled as being ‘organic.’ Additionally, it should not contain the seal of the United States Agricultural Department. Such a fruit bar could potentially be labeled ‘natural if it simply contains large quantities of nut and fruit ingredients.’ With the above information, you can make informed decisions on what to buy for yourself and your family.
