Dillons Inc. is a grocery supermarket chain that is part of The Kroger Co. It is based in Hutchinson, Kansas in the United States.
History
John S. Dillon started his grocery business by opening J.S. Dillon Cash Store in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1913. Dillon’s Inc. was officially founded in 1921, when Dillon’s sons John and Ray opened J.S. Dillon and Sons Stores Company, Inc. in Sterling, Kansas. It became successful and thus the company started expanding. The company survived the Great Depression in 1929 and World War II. Hard work and new innovations made the company grow. They were the first to introduce off-street customer car parking and public rest rooms.
In the 1940s they started converting their grocery stores into self-service food markets with check-out cash registers and food aisles. By 1946, the company’s profits rose to $12.6 million. In 1957, the company bought 16 stores of Kroger Company, located in Wichita, Kansas. They also bought King Sooper supermarkets. Dillon’s also started introducing new departments like soft goods, housewares, health and beauty aids, and books and magazines.
Over the next few decades, Dillon’s expanded vastly, with a new distribution center in Hutchinson. Also, all the stores were computerized. By early 1980s, the competition in the retail field became intense. In 1982, Dillon’s Inc. was sold to The Kroger Co, but the company was allowed to run independently. By the late 1980s, the company renovated most of its existing stores and also acquired 30 more supermarkets. However, the expansion slowed due to the financial crisis in the U.S. When the country recovered, Dillon’s again started expanding its stores. By 1940, the company acquired 240 supermarkets and 930 convenience stores. But, there were only 20 stores with the original name. J.S. Dillon’s great grandson, Dave Dillon is the current CEO of the company.

My father (87 yrs old) called to refill a prescription. He made a comment and asked to speak to someone else. The Wellington store is now refusing to fill their prescriptions. My father said he was sorry. The store’s refusal of service is very extreme. While my father was wrong to make the comment, when does a person not have the right to ask to speak to someone else? My father is hard of hearing and could not understand the person who answered the phone. Don’t you think refusing to provide service is going a little too far? My parents would rather shop at Dillons than Walmart, but obviously that is going to change. Shame on you Dillons!
Heard a rumor that Dillon’s in Springfield Missouri is selling out. Any truth to this?
I was at the Dillions in Winfield and they were out of an ingredient and Susan in the bakery was very helpful and provided me with an alternative which was very helpful and I didn’t have to return all the other items for my receipt.
I love the Dillon’s here in Manhattan. The employees are friendly and helpful, they remember me and are super nice to my kids. The prices are consistently lower than competing stores (Hy-Vee, Ray’s Apple Market, and Wal-Mart is about the same price, but Dillon’s has the loyalty cards and cheaper gas is definitely a bonus). I’ve never had a bad experience at Dillon’s.
I have a family member that has almost 3 years working at the dillons warehouse he loved his work never missed was at the point he wanted this to be a permanent thing my family wich is large did all our shoping their not at walmart were theye have no regard for their people! Then they get a new maniger for the warhouse. trying to push the people out any way making it so bad he could not sleep putting him on the verge of a nervas break down started not caring about anything couldent sleep at night .His boss would tell him to do things then say he didn,t and over working any one with benifets to the brink with no regard for anyone . Its time to show dillons what made them so big!
I am a faithful shopper of Dillions even though there is a Walmart market right across the street. I am about “DONE” with Dillions. I shop the Dillions at 21st and Amidion, first off they took down the in an out signs and the door that was the in is very small and someone coming out that small door ran a cart right into me as I was going in the door brused my thigh badly. then I go to get a cart there was only 2 in there and they are so stuck together you couldn’t get them apart. I go in and tell a lady that was standing in front of the frozen food cooler watching the registers. she never bothered to move to get carts,finally about 5 mins later someone comes and gets the 2 carts apart.. I then go through the register she throws my food so hard it crushed my pretzels. I said do you mind not throwing my bananas they don’t keep long the way it is, she just laughed. Seems like the employee’s are getting ruder. I then go to my car and the cart rack in parking lot is full of carts. I think why should I give some place my hard earned money when they act like they don’t care if I shop there are not.
I would like to know why the main store keeps telling the bakery at my Dillons store in Winfield that they do not have nutriutional information on whole wheat raisin bread that is baked in the bakery? This is the 3rd time I have sent you a contact. The supervisor in bakery told me today 3/312 that her manager keeps telling her that it should be in the folder that is kept out front. I will argue with that man. I have been through that book so many times it is worn out by now. I am going to apologize in advance for my hostlie in this matter. I am on weight watchers and we all need this information not just me. Also, some x back I thought that all food was to have that information listed on the pkg!!! I want some answer and I will not tolerate the run around I feel I will be getting from this contact. I know I can't go any higher from Dillons but the government will be my next step if you can't keep me the true value on this product. I like Dillons in Pittsburg, Ks.. Nice employees and the assistant mgr.. I suggested to him to suggest buying the empty attached bldg. on south side of strore. He thought it was a great idea. It was the old Ace Hardware store. I hope the CEO will consider doing this! My girlfriend thinks the same as I do.
I agree I worked for city market for 13 years then i met the company hitman.I had a heartattack 10 months later they accused me of using drugs.Then they fired me after they asked me to take a drug test.Then they refused to give it to me because they knew i was clean.I think the company is going down hill i refuse to have any of there product in my house.I tell everyone not to shop there.I am still trying to get a test and get the truth out.
I had a very bad experience today at Dillions store on 10 & Gage store. Went in to buy food and stopped by deli dept. I watched as a young man help anouther customer, watched him ring this customer out. Then he came to help me. I asked for some deli meat, he started to get what i wanted without changing his gloves. I asked him if he was going to put clean ones on, he just looks at me. Since i just saw him handle dirty money and not knowing how long he had these gloves on. As far as I know he could of been to the restroom with them on, I told him to forget it and told him I was going to turn him in. even at your service desk the man there showed no concern. If this is the way Dillions does business I want nothing to do with Dillions and I will tell everyone I know and meet about this
Your lucky he was even wearing gloves ,do you eat at any McDonalds or Burger King ,they dont wear gloves!!
