Supervalu Inc., that owns the Farm Fresh division has appointed Bill Parker to be the division’s interim president, succeeding Gaelo de La Fuente who is leaving to pursue other interests.

Parker will start at his position from 15th September. He has been the senior vice president of merchandising and has been with the division for 14 years, working in various capacities such as holding director, vice president and senior vice president for both operations and merchandising. With 35 years experience in the grocery industry, Parker brings a wealth of experience to Farm Fresh helm. He previously worked at Albertsons’ (also a Supervalu owned division) Florida division for 21 years as district sales manager and store director.

Fuente has been president for the 43-store division for two and a half years, since April 2010.

Farm Fresh operates under the banner Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy and started operating in 1956 as a fruit and vegetable stand. Today, the store has its own private brand of pasta and cereal, organic foods and specialty cuisine, which trade under the brand Essential Every Day, Wild Harvest and Culinary Circle respectively. It also offers online grocery shopping, as well as home delivery for its customers.

Supervalu Retail is based in Minneapolis and trades under banners such as Shaw’s, Farm Fresh, Albertsons, Acme Markets, Cub Foods, Jewel-Osco, Save-A-Lot and Shop ‘n’ Save. The company has 4,400-plus stores operating in 40 states around the country and supplies private-label and brand name goods to other independently owned stores around the country. The grocery chain has recently been carrying out a round of store closures and reports that it will close 60 stores by the year-end.
