Homemaker Brooke Dunn started couponing a year and a half ago when she was informed that her husband could possibly lose his job, which would significantly affect their income.
Instead of panicking, Dunn started looking for ways to save money and cut down on their expenses. That was the time that she tried her hand at couponing. After doing a little bit of studying and research, Dunn started to apply what she had learned and began to use coupons in her grocery shopping.
Her first method was what she called strategic shopping. With her strategy, Dunn always bought what she needed at the lowest price and then matched it up with coupons. She then buys a lot of the item, enough of it so that she will not have to buy the same item until it goes on sale once again.
With her strategy, Dunn was able to get a lot of grocery items for free and so she started giving some of those away. Not long after, Dunn’s close friends and family were already asking her for tutorials on how to coupon effectively. She had to think of a strategic way of teaching them.
Finally she decided to open her own business and called it Four Season Savers. Dunn’s business is mainly engaged in organizing and hosting workshops that teach coupon policies in the region, how to shop and use coupons effectively and where to find grocery coupons. People who come to Dunn’s workshops vary from stay-at-home moms to students, to working moms to even men and elderly people.
Although an expert at couponing herself, Dunn has expressed that she does not totally agree to the concept of TLC’s Extreme Couponing, primarily because it gives viewers the impression that expert couponers are actually hoarders when it is not the case.
I like your article and I too am a couponer and also taught a class a few years ago at my church in a series called Live and Learn. I was excited and so were the folks that attended my class. I’m no longer doing that but I loved it so much I still save a use my coupons faithfully, but I need to know how to take it to the next level and how to help others save money. Could you tell me how you were able to turn this into a business and how do you generate income from it.
