Recycling program Recyclebank is giving coupons away as a form of payouts to residents who participate in the program.

Recyclebank is a nationwide program which was started with the aim of promoting environmental preservation. Recyclebank’s Account Manager, Karin Zarin, said that the founders started the program because it was a good idea and they also wanted to start something that is new. Currently, there are about 300 Recyclebank programs all over the country.

Basically, Recyclebank gives away coupons as rewards for those who recycle garbage. People who want to participate in the program must sign up first at Recyclebank’s website so that they will be given a special garbage container for their recyclable garbage, such as glass and aluminum cans. The accumulated garbage that is put in the special recycle bin is weighed together. The coupons that will be given will be equal to the total weight of the accumulated recyclable garbage in the special bin. If a number of people put their recyclable garbage in the same special bin, then the number of coupons rewarded will be divided among the participants. The bigger the total weight of the accumulated recyclable garbage is, the more coupons will be earned.

The program’s system is a good way of encouraging the whole community to participate in recycling. As coupons have become more like a necessity nowadays, the program’s reward system will definitely attract a number of budget-conscious consumers.

In Georgia, the program seems to be getting a lot of positive responses. In Alpharetta alone, the recycling tonnage of the community has increased to 46 percent since it joined Recyclebank in 2010.
