We opened Silver Moon Bakery in late 2000, the first local artisan bakery for many years. We both grew up in awe of the freshly baked sweet and savory traditions and treats that we got at home, at friends’ houses, and in local shops. We knew we were not alone, so the idea of a shop made perfect sense – to make and sell something that everyone loves.
Our little bakery quickly became known for baguettes, and then for other breads: sourdoughs, whole wheats, ryes, challahs and many other varieties. Our cakes, tarts and other sweets rapidly became popular, and then, our pleasure in celebrating the holidays spread throughout upper Manhattan. Customers say they can find us blindfolded by following the wonderful aromas that waft through the streets.
