soupThe Shanghai FDA presented a published list of individuals and companies accused of infringing food safety regulations. The aim of publishing the list was to curb the increasing rate of food crimes. The companies mentioned in the list will be given a highest level of administrative punishment. Additionally, the executives of those companies will be fired. The mechanism has already begun to take effect. Xinhua, a certified Chinese media, has credited Shanghai FDA deputy director, GU Zhenhua, for coming up with an effective system to ensure food credibility. According to GU, businesses no following the food safety regulations will be labeled and restricted from marketing their products. On the other hand, preferential policies will be enjoyed by companies and individuals adhering to the regulations. A total of 2 restaurants and 13 individuals have has been blacklisted by Shanghai so far.

The restaurants blacklisted are Zhenjiang and Fula Hotpot. Xinhua claimed that the two restaurants were accused of recycling soups for their customers. This practice could have serious health implications. The names of the four individuals owning the two restaurants are in the blacklist and will not be allowed to work in or run food-related enterprises. There were nine additional individuals in the blacklist accused of illegal sale of dead pigs, as well as sale of industrial salt to consumers in place of table salt. The report indicated that the 13 individuals in the blacklist were jailed for a period of one to three and half years. Further reports indicate that a similar system of accountability has been introduced by the municipal government of Beijing. Under the system, all the food vendors or producers accused will be prohibited from working in food industries.
