History
Nigel Cope founded cottage Delight Specialty Foods in 1974. Even before establishing his business, Cope was already passionate about gourmet food making. His all-butter slab fudge proved to be a hit, which led him to create his food business.
As Cope continued to supply his customers, the majority of which were independent businesses, they began to ask for other kinds of foods. Thus began his formulating new food products, such as chutneys and jams.
Cope invested more in the area of a commercial kitchen, as he produced his marmalade and jams using batch methods in small quantities. His products were all made by hand, the pouring, packing and labeling included. The same method is still being used today in making the company’s products.
After over thirty years of being in business, Cottage Delight continues to work on making new products, as well as improvements to the company’s existing products. All the ingredients used are sourced only from the best to ensure quality.
Cope works with a small team of artisan producers and together they have expanded the company’s line of products. Aside from jams, marmalade and chutneys, Cottage Delight now also has hand-baked biscuits, cakes, original Italian pasta, hand-cooked crisps and many more. The awards that the company has received for its jams, chutneys and marmalade are a testament to the high quality of the company’s products.
Because the company is an avid supporter of independent trade, Cottage Delight’s products are distributed and sold via trusted independent food retailers, which include delicatessens, department stores, farm shops, garden centers and tourist attractions.
Since its inception, the company has maintained the belief that even though taste’s change over time, classic gourmet food, as well as traditional recipes, will always remain as good as they were as long as the makers of the food remain true to the food’s origin.
