Stop & Shop Supermarkets has officially expanded its popular gas rewards program into New Jersey, following a unanimous vote by the New Jersey State Assembly and State Senate to update local legislation.
Originally launched across New England and New York in 2010, the program allows shoppers to earn fuel discounts through a strategic partnership with Shell gasoline.
How the Program Works
For every dollar spent at Stop & Shop supermarket locations using a loyalty card, customers earn one rewards point. Every 100 points accumulated translates to 10 cents off per gallon at the pump, with potential savings reaching up to $2.20 per gallon.
Beyond traditional in-store grocery trips, shoppers can also accumulate points through:
- Peapod: Stop & Shop’s home delivery service.
- In-Store Pharmacies: Prescriptions filled at participating locations (subject to certain state restrictions).
Important Program Details to Know
While the expansion brings major saving opportunities to Garden State drivers, there are a few key guidelines to keep in mind:
- Participating Locations: Points can only be redeemed at the 135 participating Shell stations across New Jersey.
- Expiration Dates: Earned points must be redeemed within 30 days from the original date of purchase.
- Receipt Tracking: Discounts will not display on the pump screen itself; instead, the final adjusted price will be reflected directly on the customer’s receipt.
- Exclusions: Certain store purchases are restricted and will not count toward fuel points.
Customers can easily track their active savings, point balances, and reward history at any time by logging into their account page on the Stop & Shop website. to view and keep track of their savings, as well as their rewards through an account page.
Program Update – 2026
Since this program was first introduced, Stop & Shop has transitioned its loyalty system into the broader GO Rewards program. While New Jersey residents can still earn and stack points to save at the pump via Shell’s Fuel Rewards® network, a few modern updates to the program terms have gone into effect:
- Maximum Limit: The maximum redemption discount per single fill-up is now capped at 1,500 points ($1.50 off per gallon), down from the original $2.20 limit.
- Pharmacy Exclusions: Due to updated state regulations, prescription refills and out-of-pocket pharmacy purchases at New Jersey and New York locations are no longer eligible to earn Gas Rewards points.
- Seamless App Integration: Customers no longer rely entirely on the website; point tracking, Shell account linking, and reward tracking can now be done seamlessly through the official Stop & Shop mobile app.
