Wegmans Food Markets has voluntarily recalled Gluten Free Baking Products. The Rochester, New York –based supermarket chain has made the voluntary recall as the products are suspected to contain undeclared soy.
Some of the products that are in the gluten free baking products include Wegmans Food You Feel Good About All Purpose Baking Mix with the code dates covering 27th March 2014 to 18th December 2014; Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Gluten Free Cornbread Mix (28th March 2014 to 16th April 2014); and Wegmans Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix (code dates 30 October 2013 to 11th April 2014).
The recall was set off after an allergen testing was done for soy. Customers who had purchased these products from any of Wegmans 80 retail stores are advised to return the gluten free baking products to the chain’s services desks and they will receive refunds in full. The risk is for those who are especially allergic to soy as they could suffer possible life-threatening reactions if they eat the products. The Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Mix and Cornbread Mix were introduced into Wegmans stores in September 2012, while Chocolate Cake Mix was introduced in stores in May this year.
There have been no illnesses as a result of the products. The company has issued a number where customers can direct concerns or questions Monday to Friday (8 am -5p.m EST), the number is 1-800-WEGMANS (934-6267). The number puts customers through to the consumer affairs department of the company. The family- owned supermarket chain has its stores in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Wegmans was featured in Fortunes annual “100 Best Companies to Work For,” and for 8 consecutive years was in the top ten of that list. This year the company was ranked 4th.
