In New Rochelle, farmer’s market coupons are being given away to qualified senior citizens of New York. These coupons can be claimed at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center.

Senior citizens who want to save on their groceries must make sure that they are qualified to be given farmer’s market coupons. Requirements for eligibility include an individual income of $1,678 per month or below. For senior citizens who are married their combined monthly income should be $2,267 or below. A qualified senior citizen should be sixty years old and above, is eligible to receive food stamps, SSI, section 8 subsidy for housing or public assistance.

The coupons that will be given away will be in checkbook style and will be given away only while supply lasts. Giving of coupons started last July 22, Friday, from 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning and 1:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon. Proof of residency and proof of age are both required upon claiming the coupons. Senior citizens who have been given the coupons will be asked to sign an affidavit. Only one coupon booklet will be given per married couple who are both senior citizens.

The coupons can be used at the farmer’s market in New Rochelle every Friday. This program will last all throughout the summer and also during fall. The last day for this program will be on 15 November, from 8:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon. An extensive variety of fresh produce (vegetables and fruits) and specialty foods can be purchased at a discount using the coupons.
