Listed as Forbes Magazine’s “Most Generous Company in America,” Kroger is known for their charitable giving operations. Kroger grocery retailers work under 15 different banners, among them Ralphs, Dillons and City Market. Operating in supermarket format, Kroger grocery is large enough to also provide specialty departments such as pet centers, fresh seafood, and pharmacies.

Working at Kroger

Kroger Co. offers a huge range of positions for employment across each of their departments. As with most grocery retail positions, the work is generally fast-paced and very customer service oriented. There is limited information on benefits for Kroger employees, but it is a union job for full-time positions. Compensation begins at minimum wage, and it seems that there is not much room for advancement or pay increase, in addition to long, not flexible hours with short and limited breaks. One of the benefits of working at Kroger is the employee discount package, which allows employees to shop at very low prices in the stores. The best positions in terms of compensation, hours and flexibility, as surveyed by reviews, is in the pharmacy, although once again, the work is very busy and there are limited breaks.  The website does not provide sufficient detail about employee benefits or compensation. Overall, as per employee surveys, Kroger is a good place to work in terms of customers and co-workers, however management is not so good and compensation and breaks are low and limited.

With 2,400 grocery supermarkets, 1,182 supermarket fuel centers, 1,947 pharmacies as well as jewelry stores and convenience stores, Kroger offers a very large range of employment opportunities. There are many positions in the grocery department as store clerks, bakers, meats and produce, and management. Aside from these positions, there are options in administration such as marketing, research, media and finance. The pharmacies offer positions for technicians and pharmacies as like, as well as stocking and healthcare. Customer service and support are positions that can be found in any of the Kroger departments and banners. Most of these positions offer part and full-time employment.

Once you click on the specific job title, you can see the dates needed for the position, summary, job functions, minimum job qualifications, previous experience desired,  and potential career path.
