History
Stater Bros began in 1936 when Leo and Cleo Stater built a store in Yucaipa, California. The company gradually grew and expanded and by 2013, there were 166 stores. The company made history in 2005 when it was listed in the Fortune 500. It became the very first recognizable California inland-empire company to be listed. In 2007, the construction of a 2-million square foot facility was started by the headquarters. The facility was set up at the International Airport of San Bernardino, formerly known as Norton Air Force Base. The construction made California’s largest distribution supermarket. The current CEO of the company Jack H. Brown, and Pete Van Helden is the chief operations officer. The former COO and president of the company, Jim Lee, retired in 2013. The announcement was made after his induction into the Hall of Achievement of California Grocers Association Educational Foundation. The company slogan is “Where you Always Get More…For Less.” Stater Bros Markets has been known for hosting the Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous classic car cruise since 1990. However, the event was cancelled until further notice because of the bankruptcy of city of San Bernardino.
