In the web-based service, the shopper needs to input their savings for every single coupon that they have used, as well as rebates that they got and savings from sales that they have participated in. The tracker will also generate graphs and reports of savings that have been accumulated over time.
According to Luis Rigo Jr., programmer and owner of TotalSaved.com, he decided to create the savings tracker when he could not find one available. The inspiration for the program came when they found out that they were going to have a baby and decided to find out how much exactly they were saving in order to know what amount they had to save for the baby. Rigo added that getting the website up was a challenge, but when they were able to, they found it very useful and decided to share it with others.
TotalSaved.com first came online in 2011 for the purpose of providing couponers, extreme or not, with a way to determine how much money they have saved. Currently, the website has only been public and running for a few weeks. Despite being a relatively new site, it has already gathered significant following. Rigo attributes this achievement to the fact that the website offers free service and only asks for minimal information in order to create an account. Information asked when registering for an account includes e-mail address, password and state. As the website’s owner and programmer, Rigo plans to expand the site by adding more features that are based on his ideas, as well as from community feedback.
