Balance Bar Company was created in 1992 by founders Richard Lamb and Thomas Davidson and two more investors to this new business. Originally, Balance Bar Company was named Bio Foods Incorporated and had its first headquarters at Santa Barbara, California.
The Balance Bar Company is considered one of the pioneers of nutrition bars. Balance Bars were first sold in natural food shops and only sold in major grocery and food chains starting in 1997. Balance Bar Company experienced a fast growth ever since the product was introduced to mainstream stores. This fast growth gained the attention of Kraft Foods, who eventually bought Balance Bar for $268 million in 2000.
In 2009, ownership of the Balance Bar Company shifted again from Kraft to Brynwood Partners, an equity firm. In the years since the nutrition bar has been introduced to the market, it has obtained a significant base of followers, which was the reason why the company held an appeal for Brynwood Partners.
As the company’s flagship product, Balance Bar® nutrition bar has a 40-30-30 principle of nutrition, meaning every bar contains 40% carbohydrates, 30% fat and 30% protein. With this, the company takes pride in being able to provide consumers with a snack bar that offers balanced nutrition. Today, the nutrition bars are offered in a number of varieties that consumers can choose from. Aside from the Original Bar, there is also the Gold Bar, the Bar Bare, the Bar Café and the Bar Carbwell.
During the first half of this year, the company held sampling activities in different cities as part of a new promotion for the Balance Bar® nutrition bars. Sampling activities were held in Boise (Idaho), Charlotte (North Carolina) and Denver (Colorado). Just this month, the company announced that its Bare Sweet and Salty nutrition bar has been improved in terms of formula and packaging. Ever since, the Balance Bar Company has continued to inspire consumers to stick to a well-rounded and active life by offering healthy and great-tasting snack bars.
