Broulims Fresh FoodToday, Broulim’s Fresh Food is known for combining the very best products with world-class service.

History
Charlie Broulim opened his first grocery store in 1922 in Rigby, Idaho. As soon as Charlie’s son, Dick, returned from graduate school in Chicago he promptly purchased the family business from his father. The entire enterprise consisted of two stores, the one in Rigby and another in Rexburg, Idaho. The Great Depression brought struggles to the fledgling company and eventually, it was decided to close the Rexburg store. Owning only one store didn’t dissuade Dick from learning everything he could from marketing to produce, and how to best serve the customers.

By 1962, Broulim’s was ready to emerge and begin building what has become a strong independent retail chain. Over the past 38 years, Broulim’s now serves the southeastern Idaho area with 7 stores. Throughout the past decade, Dick has taken advantage of different opportunities that has allowed Broulim’s to expand. As an example, Dick turned his attention to the defunct Broulim’s located in Rexburg. It had been a small store with limited parking. A new Broulim’s was erected providing a larger, more convenient place to shop for Rexburg residents.

In building his small empire, Dick has focused planning on future goals and objectives. Whenever a new store is completed, there is already a plan in place to encourage and protect the company while it grows. Training their managers in every aspect of their job and passing that knowledge to their staff, Broulim’s focus on their customers shines through. Keeping ahead of trends is also a major contributor to Broulim’s success. They don’t wait until someone tells them what’s up and coming, they are actively investigating, researching and subsequently providing the latest trends to their customers.

Broulim’s strives to sell the freshest produce available. They buy locally grown fruits, vegetables and meat whenever possible. Even though Idaho is best known for its fabulous potato, Idaho produces some of the finest quality fruits and vegetables each year. Broulim’s only sells produce that’s in season. The company also takes an interest in each store’s local community; participating in the community’s local food bank and other charities. Knowing their customer and their market has brought the Broulim’s chain the success it has today.
