Compare Foods Supermarket is a supermarket chain that operates in various locations surrounding New York City. They sell an array of grocery products including fresh meat, pasta and ice cream.
History
The founders of the company are the Peña family, who have Spanish heritage. They wanted to open a chain of supermarkets that offered good quality products and excellent customer service at a low price. The head of the family and of the company was Eligio Peña, as he had the initial vision of opening a supermarket.
The first store opened its doors back in 1978; it was located in Woodside, Queens, New York. The Woodside store was a success, so other stores were opened in Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan and Queens the following years. Due to expansion, the company changed the name above the doors to Compare Foods. The idea behind the name has came to mean that if you were to compare the food with any other supermarket then you would be happy with your purchase as it would be better quality for the money.
The first store opened under the new name in 1989 and it was located in Free Port, New York and this one was embraced by the community in the same positive manner as the previous stores so they opened another store soon thereafter in nearby Brentwood. Currently, they have stores open across New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island and North Carolina
In recent years, they have shifted a small amount of their focus away from opening shops and looking at aiding the local community. They support local groups by offering sponsorships in order for them to raise money to help the less fortunate. The majority of their donations end up in churches, charities and youth services. By doing this, the company is not just feeding the community but giving them a more enjoyable area to call home.

The store in Charlotte on Freedom Highway is charging $19.99 for a 24 pack of Nestle Bottled water. I have reported them to the NC DOJ website for price gouging. Your company should be ashamed of themselves, you schmucks.
Expired beer sold in charlotte all the stores watch out for
Hi, does any of you knows a contact of the headquarter or central office of compare foods
enoy spring / summer 2017
I’ve got to say.. the people who are in charge in compares on East main st Bridgeport ct 06608 treat their workers like if they are not human. They yell at those poor girls and guys in front of customers like my self. I have witnessed the unfairness for years. Today I happen to go again, so one old man about 60 years old and alcoholic went in stole a beer. The securities dragged him from outside back in the store, making a show once again in front of customers. So then they took out the bottlesame of beer he took.. now the old man also had a bottle of liquor pint size not stolen. So the two men retrieve everything from this old man.
Ok..so I’m totally against theft. I don’t agree with the old man doing what he did. But the other men who works in compare was grabbing him by his shirt, yelling are you going to pay for that..you have money? The old man said no, he apologized. He was so drunk he was stumbling. The two guys didn’t care of his condition they pushed him. Saying get the fuck out of here.. instead of calling the police, to seek for the help that the old man needed. Seriously!!! Heartless people who are put in charge especially that bald black guy. Some places higher the wrong people, thinking that it’s going to workout. But I have seen the micromanagement in that place. Making cashiers stay till late, not giving them a set schedule. I know people who are students that work in this place.. I hear the same thing, they don’t want problems. They need the money. The management puts them into fear. Yes..you give somewhat good deals..on meat so far. But it sucks…after witnessing all this..today just topped it. I’m done with this place. I’ll spread this story, plus many more.someone need to do something about the management …clean house. This place will eventually go down. Poor people who try to make a decent living not earning enough in compare, has to put up with the stress of these useless managers..the only thing they know is yelling, and putting people down. Every work place no matter what business it is. Should be TEAM WORK. If management can’t handle being a good manager he or she should not be in charge. Everyone is equal, as a manager should treat people with respect and understanding..but yet be firm and keep all as business. We are human. I have seen great successful companies, they don’t treat their workers like crap. I’m sorry nothing personal to compares food corporation. I’m letting you know what happening in this place. Someone needs to do something.
Thanks
