Compare Foods Supermarket is a supermarket chain that operates in various locations surrounding New York City. They sell an array of grocery products including fresh meat, pasta and ice cream.
History
The founders of the company are the Peña family, who have Spanish heritage. They wanted to open a chain of supermarkets that offered good quality products and excellent customer service at a low price. The head of the family and of the company was Eligio Peña, as he had the initial vision of opening a supermarket.
The first store opened its doors back in 1978; it was located in Woodside, Queens, New York. The Woodside store was a success, so other stores were opened in Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan and Queens the following years. Due to expansion, the company changed the name above the doors to Compare Foods. The idea behind the name has came to mean that if you were to compare the food with any other supermarket then you would be happy with your purchase as it would be better quality for the money.
The first store opened under the new name in 1989 and it was located in Free Port, New York and this one was embraced by the community in the same positive manner as the previous stores so they opened another store soon thereafter in nearby Brentwood. Currently, they have stores open across New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island and North Carolina
In recent years, they have shifted a small amount of their focus away from opening shops and looking at aiding the local community. They support local groups by offering sponsorships in order for them to raise money to help the less fortunate. The majority of their donations end up in churches, charities and youth services. By doing this, the company is not just feeding the community but giving them a more enjoyable area to call home.

Over 2 years ago I saw a sign at Capital Blvd and NewHope Church Rd in Raleigh NC thst a Compare Food was coming soon in that strip mall. Now the sign is no longer there. There is no indication of a Compare in the making. Please do come to Raleigh. I go to Durham from Raleigh st least 4 time a month to shop at Compare. Are you still coming to Raleigh Capital Blvd?
I shopped at Compare Foods on N. Tryon Road in Charlotte and was told at the register that the 10% Senior discount day is Tuesdays NOT Wednesdays as advertised online. This is wrong and inconvenient to Seniors!!!
i live in Asheville,N.C.. i go visit your store in Charlotte when ever i am by there. your store has a number of product i love from my younger days living in N.Y.. Listen, Asheville is growing fast. Even the present President Obama is moving here after his time in office is done. Yes, a good amount of small mexican convenient stores. But nothing like your store. please come and visit. Take advantage of our ever growing mountains. ill help anyway i can, scotting or meeting up if you give it some consideration. Spanish people gotta help each other. Thank for your time, Tony 828-230-5414
I am doing some research about Compare Foods sponsorship of African American events throughout North Carolina. Could you please give me some examples of these events?
I have some problems with the same store that John R. Mentioned, in Jackson Heights, NY.
Produce is poor quality and extremely expensive. Food is spoiled and has made me sick before.
The evening manager, an older blonde woman, told me I am not allowed to shop in the store with my stroller. This seems like an unfair attack on me as a parent.
Compare does not have a corporate number listed anywhere and does not seem to reply to their customer service email address. I’ll take my business elsewhere.
I’m writing to express my dissatisfaction with the management and customer service in my neighborhood Compare Supermarket located on 86-02 Northern Blvd, Jackson Heights, NY 11372
First, in repeated occasions I complained to management for mislabeling items, which says one price on the stand/ isle, and a higher price at the register.
Second, this morning Saturday March 22 at around 11am, as in other occasions I stand on the express lane which is 10 ITEMS OR LESS, and often there are people with a full cart of more than 40 items, at least.
As I spoke to the manager STEPHANIE ESPINAL, to express my dissatisfaction for the issue, regretfully she turned my complaint into a disrespectful argument, when all I wanted her was to acknowledge what an EXPRESS LANE was supposed to be for, instead in a rule and disrespectful way, she challenged me to complaint to the corporate offices.
Because I do appreciate the convenience of your business, before I make a formal complaint to the NEW YORK BETTER BUSINESS BUROUGH, I will await an explanation from COMPARE SUPERMAKETS customer service, regarding such regretfully incidents.
Thank you in advance
John R

Is there a store in the Matthews NC area. Area zip is 28105.
Thank you
Trying to get address and directions to your Winston-Salem, NC store but not listed in internet. Called the Statesville branch and a man answered and told me he didn’t know where it was located nor the tel.#, that no one in his store knew it and to just drive to Winston-Salem and ask for info. I am 2-3 hrs drive from Winston… I don’t want to waste the trip and gas to find out if there is one or not….
The store in mycity of Lexington NC does not give the senior discounts,
can you tell me why and are they suppose to?
I see it advertised on your website….
