Sweet treats like cakes, biscuits, and fizzy drinks have been associated with bowel cancer. A research was conducted to establish a positive link between cancer and sugar and a fat rich diet. A team of researchers from the University of Edinburg considered risk factors such as smoking, diet and physical activity levels. The researchers examined different foods including vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, as well as high-fat foods including nuts, chocolate, fruit drinks and crisps. Some of the risk factors for colorectal cancers as established by researchers include low levels of physical activity, genetic factors and tobacco. Additionally, the team established that a high intake of sugar-sweetened drinks and high-energy snacks could cause cancer. The study was published in the current edition of “European Cancer Prevention Journal.” The study adds to previous research that has established a connection between diet and bowel cancer.
While the positive link between high sugar and a fat rich diet and cancer is not an obvious implication of cause and effect, it is essential for the findings to be put on the table. Such findings can be particularly useful to people in industrial nations, prone to consume large quantities of such foods. Meanwhile, a new finding in the body’s immune system has been discovered in relation to cancer. Researchers were shocked to discover that a class of virus-fighting proteins mutates to produce defects associated with several cancers. The proteins are called AP0BEC cytidine deaminases, which are responsible for more than sixty percent of cervical, bladder, head, breast, lung, and neck cancers. Generally, all cancers arise from genetic code mistakes that are not corrected. These can be triggered by several factors including radiation and toxic chemicals.
