“Here Everything’s Better” is the slogan at HEB Grocery Company, but that is not what the acronym means. The name comes from the founding lady’s son’s initials – Howard Edward Butt. She gave control to her son in 1919.

In 1905, Florence Butt, founder of H-E-B, opened C. C. Butt Grocery store. The store was taken over by her son after he came back from World War I. The name of the stores changed to H-E-B in 1927 after some new acquisitions of stores in other locations. The H.E.B chain of businesses is, in most cases, referred to as H.E.B. The headquarters of the company is in San Antonio, Texas. HEB is the largest privately owned company in Texas.

Private Label Products

HEB produces their own private brand of milk, bread, ice cream, ready-cooked meats, snacks and meals. The brand names that the products are sold under include “H-E-B Fully Cooked,” “Hill Country Fare,” “H-E-B,” “H-E-B Mootopia for milk, and “H-E-Buddy.”

Also under the control of H.E.B is the Central Market. This is a fine foods and organic distributor that carries brands such as “Central Market Organics” and “Central Market Naturals.” The Central Market stores can be found in eight locations. The company also operates HEB Plus, Mi Tienda (‘my store’ in Spanish) and Joe V’s Smart Shop. HEB Plus! Has larger non-food item sections such as entertainment, house wares and general merchandise, Mi Tienda is a Latino-themed store that carries sections where Mexican homemade baked goods are offered and where fresh tortillas are made, the Cocina restaurant is also housed. Joe V’s Smart Shop features discount items.

The company owns more than 300 stores in Northern Mexico and in Texas.

We appreciate their caring & concern for our daughter when she had a serious heart condition last year. We appreciate their staff who are always helpful & in good cheer. They always go out of their way to help us find merchandise that we can’t locate. They always make us feel welcome & special. Many blessings to all HEB employees and their families

I always shop at the store at Highland Knolls and S.Mason in Katy. Today there were no regular or decaf tea BAGS. Only sweet tea for the Keurig machine. I don’t have one and don’t want one so I need regular tea bags. Did the manager decide we all have these machines??? I still make my coffee in a little tin drip coffee maker. Best there is. Now I’ll have to go to another store to find just tea.

I also shop there. Well, more accurately, used to.
They used to carry pickling cucumbers, too. Now? Nope, even though they are listed on that specific store’s website.
Same with Marsala and cooking sherry. Used to, then stopped.
Same for Adams Reserve Sweet Red Pepper Flakes. Used to, now don’t.
Half the time, they don’t even have dry-roasted PEANUTS in stock – Oh, lots of the “flavored” stuff, but plain old dry-roasted peanuts, cashews, almonds, or even pecans.

And then retailers somehow just cannot figure out why people are increasingly shopping on-line, and “need” to pay $millions to do all sorts of goofy “studies” that avoid the obvious. They just assume one is going to drive 10+ miles each way to buy whatever weird stuff that some “purchasing specialist” decides is all new and different and nifty-keen, and if you *don’t want* to put something like “brown-sugar blueberry garlic almonds”, or some equally weird thing, into your classic-recipe chocolate-almond torte, well, that’s just too dang bad.

Drive elsewhere to buy tea – or things that used to be standard ingredients? Um, no. The other stores are probably doing the same thing. Why spend money on gasoline in a fruitless search for formerly-standard items, when one can order those items on-line at competitive prices, AND have them delivered to one’s door?

Regarding your store in Spring Branch (hwy 46, Bulverde) THE HANDICAP ELECTRIC SCOOTERS ARE IN ABYSMAL CONDITION!

You need to replace them, or at least, replace the batteries or battery chargers.

Steve, most of the stores donate the baked goods, produce and meats to the local food bank each week when the sale-by dates are ending. The store gets to take a tax deduction and the poor get quality food items! The store then restocks those areas with brand new merchandise for its customers! If you ask what day of the week they make their donations and shop on the next day…you can be assured of the freshest ingredients!

Temple, Texas is growing. Across from Baylor Scott and White Hospital we have building happening everywhere, including my favorite Panera Bread. Less than a mile down 31st street we have a very crowded old HEB with a very cracked dirty floor. When are you planning to enlarge or rebuild a new store in south Temple?

In my neighborhood I have many neighbors who are doctors working at Baylor Scott and White. I think we need to show our appreciation for their work and at least provide them with one of your best stores in south Temple, TX.

I am surprised that a new product from Tostitos Brand is not carried in your stores. I have asked workers and stockers to inquire of managers if they can stock this item. I am referring to Tostitos Rolls. I see the commercials daily on TV..so I know they are out there. Is there some problem with this product? Thank You

I have ALWAYS shopped at HEB, but will start shopping elsewhere. HEB’s just gone down way too much! I couldn’t find the hormone free meats they use to have, been 4-5 weeks since I found it! So I went to butcher counter only to be ignored by an employee handling meat without gloves! last time I picked out a steak, the butcher threw it on the scale without paper or foil, just on the scale, I just walked off and told the manager! Why don’t your employees practice simple health standards? Also, I check my eggs before checking out with them, but then your poorly trained baggers thrown them in the bag smashing at least two that are on the end taking the BLUNK FORCE of your unskilled yahoos! You also stopped carrying some name brand items I end up buying at Walmart, like OLD EL PASO CHALUPA SHELLS. Why must I buy your huge pack of 50 when I only want 10? HEB’s standards are sure nit they were when I worked there 30 years ago!

What can we do to keep pets (not Service Animals) our of our grocery stores. I prefer shopping in a clean and safe environment. As a disabled shopper, I understand Service Animals; however, I do not understand why pampered pets are allowed into stores without question. I also am aware that your employees are not allowed to ask whether or not this is a Service Animal. This is not good. Those folks are taking advantage of the ADA and it makes for an unsafe and unclean environment. I also do not appreciate these animals allowed in the store so that they may sniff at the meat counter and slobber on the plastic wrapped packages and also relieve themselves of feces while standing there. HEB…You need to do a better job!

I am extremely disappointed in the new configurations used for the plant areas at your newly remodeled stores. The previous plant area at the 3009 store was the best! Now you cannot walk on the sidewalk, you cannot roll your cart on the sidewalk you have to be in the street to look at plants or even to get to your car! It’s ridiculous that they have been reconfigured to this disastrous way! I pray no one gets killed before HEB comes to their senses and rearranges the plant areas in a more sensible manner. I have been an HEB customer since 1966 and I shop at HEB wherever I am. Yesterday I was at the Blanco/1604 store and it is the same way!

The yellow corn tortillas you all use to make at the Kostoryz location in Corpus Christi were the best. You all should start making those again. The ones you all have now smell and taste just like the white corn tortillas….yuck!!! If you all do not want to make them you should sell “La Famosa” brand tortillas, their company is based out of Kingsville, Texas… I still love my HEB….

Our Houston HEB on Beechnut & Beltway 8 was the target of arson on Wednesday night. We were able to return today and were amazed at how well it had been restored. Partners from all over the area pitched in to help, as well as Scott McClelland and a disaster team. This is my favorite HEB, and I found our return to be a bit emotional,as did some of the other shoppers. The employees we see regularly and some that were new to us were so upbeat and in good spirits. They gave us a hug and welcomed us back. It gave me “chilly bumps” to see how proud they are of their workplace. It reminded me of one of the Tenets of Tae Kwan Do: The indomitable human spirit. We have shopped at this location since it opened and are very grateful we are still able to do so. I applaud my favorite store.

I have a recipe for fried cheese that came with the H-E-B Seasoned Frying Flour. The recipe calls for 1 package (12 oz.) H-E-B frying cheese” plain, tropical fruit, jalapeno or basil herb. When I went to my store in Corpus Christi, the lady at the cheese counter had no idea what I was asking for. I looked all through the case and also the cheese in the back of the store, but could not find it. Where do I need to go to find it?

I know h.e.b. got let down in Athens tx, but wolfe sporting goods store shut down. the building & land are for sale 6.97 acres 45,000 foot store. about a little bigger than the store in crockett tx.214 505 3221 to contact. this would be on hwy 19 south, near the medical center and a large residential area, also a newly built senor area, a rehab center with apts and small cottages. to me it would be an idea place. large parking large truck dock. lotz of places for handicapped parking. I think it would be a good place to shop. no other stores are that far out. 2 mile north of this building is a sav a lot. nobody really likes it, otherwise, it walmart or a brookshires, on 31 on the other side of town.
