Copps Food Center StoresCopps Food Center is a supermarket chain that services communities in and around Wisconsin. They sell an array of typical groceries including dairy products, fresh meat, pasta and paper products.

History
The company was founded by Egbert Morton Copps, a former Army captain. He left the Army with the desire to work on a farm or go into business. The Copps Food Center is only part of the company that he built, which is known as The Copps Corporation. The corporation as a whole started off in 1892 as a timber mill that repeatedly got burnt down and rebuilt as a result of misbehaved children in the neighborhood. It was not until the 1970s that the corporation expanded into the supermarket retail sector and Copps Food Center was born.

Nothing of notable interest happened to the company until 2001 when it was purchased by Roundy’s. At the time, Roundy’s was a large supermarket that operated under many banners including Pick ‘n’ Save. When the takeover was completed, the company needed little financial input as the brand name sold itself due to its good reputation and loyal customers.

In 2002, the entire Roundy’s empire went under a drastic financial restructuring so that it could keep up with the ever changing market. This restructuring was a positive move for the company and reflected positively on Copps Food Center, which is still in operation to the present day. Even in the poor economic climate at present, there have been no rumors of the company needing to close any stores.

Other significant moments in the company’s history was that Roundy’s entered the Fortune 500 in 2004. The company stayed there for two years before dropping out in 2006. Part of the success of Roundy’s was due to the strong brand name of Copps Food Center.
