Frito-Lay North America, Inc. Frito-Lay North America, Inc., based in Plano, TX,  is one of the largest snack manufacturers in the world. The company manufactures potato chips and other salty snacks and delivers them to all parts of America.

History
Frito-Lay North America, Inc. was founded in 1932 by C. E. Doolin. Before he started the chips business, he used to buy corn chips from a San Antonio café. When the owner of the café tried to sell, Doolin bought it and named it FRITOS Corn Chips. He also bought the recipe for making the corn chips and started selling the chips from his Ford car.

It was during that time Herman W. Lay opened a manufacturing facility for making potato chips based in Nashville, TN. Later, Lay changed the name of the company to H.W. Lay & Company. The business became successful and soon became the largest snack manufacturer in the Southeast region of the USA. Lay’s Potato Chips is still one of the most popular snacks in America.

In 1961, Frito-Lay North America, Inc. was formed by the merging of the two large snack food companies, H.W. Lay & Company and Fritos. The name of the new company was Frito-Lay, Inc. Today, 59% of the salty snacks sold in the U.S. are manufactured by this company. The company has maintained the quality of its products which have made it very popular. It also plays its part to reduce carbon emissions by using energy from renewable resources. The company makes its products from very simple ingredients, with less fat and salt. The potatoes used for making chips are specially grown in farms in North Dakota. The potatoes and corn are harvested at the right time, and are sent to the manufacturing plant. Then, they are washed to remove all dirt, and are peeled. After that, the potatoes are sliced and are washed again to remove starch. All Frito-Lay chips are fried in sunflower oil to make the most delicious chips in the world.
